The Flaming Lips & The Raveonettes; 12 Nov '10

Flaming Lips, just.... wow. Wayne Coyne has always been like, a hero to me, and seeing him live was the cherry on top of a stellar year.
I stupidly bought two tickets, one for me and one for my friend Mari but, she couldn't come from Jakarta so I had to find another friend to go with. It was the day before the gig and I still did not have a friend to go with, so thanks to Last.Fm, I sold my ticket. Honestly, I hate selling stuff in the internet but hey, at least I get to make a new friend. Anywho, I ended up going with Ilhana and met with her friend, Talia. Both amazing people, instantly got along with them.

The crowd? I could see so many people were so excited to see Flaming Lips. I don't blame them, and there were so many people that were excited to see The Raveonettes. I spotted a lot of Indonesians, which kinda reminded me of gigs in Jakarta. The crowd was amazing, through out the whole thing was just amazing. The best crowd so far yet.
The venue? I was a bit worried, I've never been to a gig in Marina Bay Sands expo hall, thought it was a bit weird but, it was pretty nice. I didn't really get to check the back part of the venue since I was near the stage the whole time but, it was very spacious at the back. Imagine a big grey gym, and there a somewhat small stage against a wall.
The bands? RAVEONETTES was my first shoe-gaze gig, and oh hell yeah, it was entertaining. Soothing, jumpy, and I feel like everyone there was high (but they weren't). For me it was a nice way to start the evening. FLAMING LIPS opening was, SMASH! I mean, I know they were extravagant but I didn't think they were in the opening, HIGHLIGHT WAS WHEN WAYNE COYNE GOT INSIDE THE GIANT HAMSTER BALL AND ROLLED INTO THE CROWD THAT WAS AMAZING.
So that was one of my highlights. Another highlight was when he put on his giant laser hands + disco ball, when they played DO YOU REALIZE, oh and the confetti was amazing too.
Overall, I give the night a 9.5/10.
That. Good.
